    Traditional outlets are reaching their limits, while the high organic load of whey poses a major environmental challenge for cheese producers.

    The project takes an integrated approach to unlocking the value of the two main components of whey:

    • Proteins, used to develop bio-based packaging materials
    • Lactose, converted into biogas produced directly on site

    This dual approach reduces environmental impact while creating new sources of value for the dairy industry.

  • Résultats attendus
    Résultats

    The project demonstrated the feasibility of producing biogas from whey through a stable process that generates methane-rich gas suitable for direct use as an energy source.

    At the same time, bio-based packaging films made from whey proteins were developed, with their performance enhanced through innovative treatment processes, opening up new opportunities for food packaging applications.
