Showcasing Fribourg's Agri-Food Innovation
Innovation, sustainability, and collaboration took center stage at Fribourg Agri&Food's press conference, which brought together key players from Fribourg's agri-food ecosystem this Wednesday at HEIA-FR.
In the presence of the three State Councillors Didier Castella (DIAF), Olivier Curty (DEEF), and Sylvie Bonvin-Sansonnens (DFAC), the event highlighted the strength of an ecosystem where research, education, and industry work hand in hand to shape the future of Fribourg's agri-food sector.
Since its launch in 2021, Fribourg Agri&Food has acted as a catalyst for agri-food innovation in the canton. Supported by the cantonal departments responsible for the economy, agriculture, and education, the initiative fosters collaboration between researchers, educational institutions, and businesses to develop practical, sustainable, and competitive solutions.
During the press conference, three flagship projects showcased the diversity and strength of this collaborative ecosystem:
- Wheydrogen (HEIA-FR) – transforming whey into green hydrogen.
- Electric Dock Weed Fork (Overney Technologies SA) – developing an AI-powered intelligent weeding system.
ALI Impact (Grangeneuve) – identifying psychological and marketing drivers to encourage more sustainable food choices in institutional catering.
Beyond funding, Fribourg Agri&Food provides a comprehensive range of services —including Support & Advisory, Prototyping & Field Trials, Consumer Insights, Producer Forums, and Laboratory Access—helping innovators turn ideas into market-ready solutions.
With the selection of three new Flagship Projects in 2025, Fribourg Agri&Food continues to build on this momentum, pursuing a shared ambition: to strengthen Fribourg's position as Switzerland's leading hub for agri-food innovation and a showcase for innovation that benefits the region.
